A place to meet, collaborate and share knowledge: The VNAB Forum opened its doors in Rotterdam in 2016.
VNAB revolutionised the co-insurance market in 2008 with the launch of the electronic insurance exchange system (e-ABS), the first of its kind globally. This system marked the transition from physical trading floors to a fully digitised virtual insurance exchange.
In 2005, the VNAB became a professional and proactive interest group, assuming an advisory and innovative role. The board and bureau organisation were further professionalised and several committees were created.
The introduction of the Stock Exchange Clearing System (BCS) in 1991 streamlined administrative processes, marking a milestone in efficiency. The system was later transferred to ABZ in 2000.
On 1 January 1986, three organisations merged into a unified body to better support the co-insurance market. Modern administrative systems and uniform codes of conduct were introduced, laying the foundation for the VNAB as we know it today.
In 1983, the Centraal Bureau Coassurantie (CBC) was formed, consolidating the Dutch co-insurance system under a centralised structure with uniform rules. The Organisatie van Coassurantie Assuradeuren (OCA) was also created to unify insurers and agents in the Netherlands.
VNAB was officially established in 1972 to improve collaboration between two insurance exchanges. Agreements were introduced to standardise procedures and define the rights and obligations of brokers and insurers.
Before digitalisation, managing insurance and claims was a time-consuming process. In the 1960s and 1970s, centralised booking offices emerged, such as the Assurantie Boekings Centrale (ABC) in Rotterdam and the Beurs Boekings Bureau (BBB) in Amsterdam. However, these offices initially lacked uniform processes for booking premiums and claims.
